Godzilla Shares Fun Tokyo Shopping Anecdote During ‘Tonight Show’ Appearance
NEW YORK—In town to promote its most recent film, the prehistoric reptilian beast known as Godzilla shared an anecdote about a recent Tokyo shopping trip during an appearance Monday on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. “Well, I’d actually never been to Tokyo, which is insane, I know, but we shoot most of this stuff on a back lot—anyway, yeah, we went on a bar crawl in Harajuku, and it was just as insane as they say,” the 390-foot-tall spine-covered aquatic monster said as the show’s host broke down laughing at a photograph of Godzilla wincing while surrounded by robotic ninjas, dragons, and samurais at a neon-lit novelty restaurant in the Nihonbashi neighborhood. “I’m a lot taller than most people there, too, so I was just ducking everywhere I went on the trains. Meanwhile, everyone’s just looking at me like I’m this absolutely insane foreigner. And all of this is before we got to the coffee shop with owls in it. Amazing place. Crazy place, too.” At press time, Godzilla’s appearance had been cut short after the star accidentally impaled Hugh Grant on its tail during a game of Whisper Challenge.
