OTTAWA – With partisan rhetoric between Trudeau’s Liberals and Poilievre’s Conservatives heating up in anticipation of a possible Federal election, many report feeling dismayed at the prospect of choosing between the same two parties – namely NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh.
“Every election it’s just the same two uninspiring choices,” sighed Singh as he perused a recent Globe & Mail editorial. “But they’re the only two real options, unless you just want to throw your vote away.”
While waiting for an NDP caucus meeting to start, Singh was blunt about the binary choice faced by Canadians like him in every recent election. “It’s bad enough to have only two parties to choose from, but it’s even worse that neither seems to truly speak to the realities facing Canadians today.”
“Ah well, that’s democracy for you,” added Singh, before logging onto the CBC’s 2021 Federal Vote Compass, to see which of the two parties he more aligned with.
In an effort to get more involved in Canadian politics, Singh reports inquiring about volunteering with either the Liberal or Conservative campaigns. “I guess I have time until the next election to figure out which one feels right for me,” Singh notes, “But I imagine my day job will really limit the amount of time I have to volunteer.”
“Still, no matter how small, it’ll be nice to feel like I’m making a difference for a change.”
