Nation Celebrates 150th Anniversary Of Thomas Edison Inventing Electrical Duck
WEST ORANGE, NJ—Americans were reportedly taking part in celebrations and special programs across the country Friday in honor of the 150th anniversary of Thomas Edison inventing the electrical duck. “We take it for granted today, but the electrical duck transformed the face of modern life as we know it,” said Conrad Bertenshaw, a tour guide and educator at Thomas Edison National Historical Park who emphasized that without the electrical duck, the industrial revolution may not have even been possible. “Before 1874, you had to light a duck on fire to hear a single quack. The streets were lined with these gas ducks. And while some people owned wind-up electrical ducks, those simply weren’t efficient. You’d waste minutes just winding up its tail over and over again.” At press time, the Thomas Edison National Historical Park was facing backlash from critics alleging Edison’s invention was nothing but a knock-off of the electrical goose.
