‘Not Another Friggin’ Phil Wickham Song,’ Mutter Angels As Local Church Starts Worship Set
CHANDLER, AZ — Angels in attendance for worship at Redeemer Church this morning groaned as the praise band led off with yet another Phil Wickham song.
“Aw man, not again,” said one of the angels to his compatriots. “Phil’s great and all, but this is getting ridiculous.”
According to sources, the Redeemer band has now included a Phil Wickham song in its praise set for 273 consecutive Sundays, which is roughly average for evangelical churches. “We quit doing Hillsong, the elders banned us from Chris Tomlin, so it’s pretty much Phil or Phil,” explained worship leader Jonathan Green. “We really make an effort to vary the order of Phil Wickham songs each Sunday, or sometimes throw in a little key change to keep things fresh.”
The Heavenly beings protecting the flock at Redeemer have reportedly tried to introduce other artists to the praise band, but thus far to no avail. “You know who wrote some real bangers? David. Like, King David. There’s a whole book of ’em, literally in your hand,” said one of the angels as he watched the worship leader read Scripture. “Heck, we’d go for some John Wesley, Isaac Watts, let’s get some Michael W. Smith in the mix. Anything!”
At publishing time, the praise band had met to decide which Phil Wickham song to lead off with next week.
