Yoplait Label Warns Yogurts Must Reach Internal Temperature Of 165 Degrees Before Consumption
MINNEAPOLIS—Updating its packaging to include new USDA-mandated guidelines for safe yogurt preparation, Yoplait began warning Tuesday that its products must reach a minimum internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit prior to consumption. “Contents must be heated to 165°F/74°C or higher to destroy the bacteria present in fermented dairy products,” read a Yoplait container’s revised labeling, which recommends using a probe thermometer to keep a close eye on the yogurt as it is cooking. “A good rule of thumb is to make sure there’s almost no pink inside your Strawberry Cheesecake Yoplait Original when you spoon into it. Trusted methods include boiling, pan-frying, air-frying, or roasting the whole plastic container. Induce vomiting immediately if any part of the yogurt is accidentally ingested raw.” The packaging noted that a microwave could also be used so long as the container’s foil top ignites, sets the yogurt on fire, and sears it to the appropriate temperature.
