NEW YORK—In a long-awaited initiative that city officials said would ease the stress of busy, on-the-go New Yorkers, Mayor Eric Adams announced Wednesday the launch of a new shareable e-cig program that serves high-density areas throughout the five boroughs. “It’s as easy as swiping your card and taking a drag,” said Adams, describing how his office partnered with e-liquid brand Naked 100 to install more than 1,700 stations where one can pay $4.79 to unlock an e-cig and vape for a half hour, after which there is a charge of 30 cents per minute until the device is returned to an open dock anywhere in the city. “With this new program, it has never been easier for residents and tourists alike to vape around the city, from Times Square to Flushing to Coney Island. This is an integral part of a wider urban development project that also includes painting lines in select city alleys to section off areas for vaping.” Asked for their opinions of the new program, many New Yorkers claimed the clunky e-cigs were too heavy to operate and always out of vape juice.
