Airbnb Listing Stipulates You Must Remodel Kitchen Before Checkout

PHOENIX, AZ — A local family found themselves in a difficult situation when packing up to head home after vacation when they discovered that the Airbnb listing for the home they stayed in stipulated that they must remodel the kitchen before checking out.

Though the Henderson family had thoroughly enjoyed their stay at the Airbnb, they had neglected to read the listing in detail and were not aware that in addition to stripping the sheets off the beds and piling used towels in the laundry room, they would also be required to perform a full floor-to-ceiling remodel on the kitchen.

“This seems a little excessive, doesn’t it?” asked Jeff Henderson when reading the checkout instructions as his family prepared to leave. “I know we’re expected to tidy up a bit and leave the place in good condition, but installing new custom cabinets, putting in a new backsplash, and adding new marble countertops is more than I anticipated.”

Jeff’s wife, Tina, agreed. “Makes the price of the place feel a lot less reasonable,” she said. “Don’t get me wrong, it’s a lovely home, and it was close to all of the places we wanted to visit while we were here… but now we’re looking at staying several more days and making multiple trips to Home Depot just to finish remodeling the kitchen so we can leave. In all honesty, this might affect our review.”

At publishing time, the Hendersons had given up on any hope of being able to afford a vacation next summer because they would both need to get second jobs to pay off the expense of remodeling the kitchen of this year’s Airbnb.
