Worcestershire Sauce Bottle Proudly Passed Down For 7 Generations

MILWAUKEE, WI — A time-honored family tradition was carried on this week, as a bottle of Worcestershire sauce was proudly passed down to a 7th generation.
William Baxendale VI was proud to carry on the cherished heritage last week by bequeathing the family bottle of Worcestershire sauce to his son, William Baxendale VII, who is now the 7th generation of Baxendale men to possess the bottle.
“It’s still about three-quarters full,” marveled Baxendale VII, carefully cradling the 15 fl. oz. bottle in his arms like a newborn baby. “Just look at it — it’s only gotten better after all these years.”
According to Baxendale VI’s wife, Angela, the precious heirloom had been passed down from father to son since the mid-1800s. Most of the Baxendale men who owned the bottle had used only a slight splash of the priceless contents to flavor one or two overcooked steaks before dying and passing it along to their sons.
“There were almost a couple disasters when an owner of the bottle didn’t have an eldest son for some years,” Angela noted. “It was sort of like Pride and Prejudice, but actually noteworthy. We’re just glad no one’s broken the streak so far.”
Baxendale VII expressed hope that he, too, would one day be able to pass the bottle of Worcestershire sauce to his own son so that it could spend several more decades sitting unused on a pantry shelf.
At publishing time, Eustace William Baxendale VII had nearly wrecked the fortunes of future Baxendale generations by accidentally spilling half the bottle while marinating a batch of steaks.
